PREWARD Study

Research Goal

Investigating the effect of social media use and parenting styles on the manner in which the adolescent brain processes rewards.

Participant Eligibility

Age: 
Teenagers aged 13 to 18

All participants (parents and teens) must speak either French or English fluently

Study Components

Step 1

Pre-Lab Visit Activities for Teen and 1+ Parent 

Teen Activity:

- A brief online questionnaire

Parent Activities:

- Both parents (if available) take a short survey

Step 2

2.5 hr Lab Visit for Teen

Teen Activity:

- Complete social media-related activities on our computer while their brain        activity is monitored by EEG
  (Compensation: $50 in gift cards + up to $9 in cash)

Parental pick-up and drop-off for teens is required

Step 3

Post-Lab Visit Surveys for Teen

Teen Activity:

- Complete 3 very brief (< 5 min) daily surveys over 10 days
  (Compensation: up to a $20 gift card, depending on # of surveys completed)

- Complete 1 follow-up survey, 6 months post-lab visit

  (Compensation: $10 gift card)

**Tasks from Step 3 are optional for participation**
